How the course was measured

The first 4.5 miles were measured in reverse ,so that I could ride in the direction of the traffic. After the count for this was taken ,I rode the rest of the course as run.The exception was the loop around Altrincham town centre,which was again measured in reverse On the initial ride (12/10/15) it was then necessary to ride the start loop again to adjust the turn round point on Trafford Wharf Road by 2302 counts(4604 total=380 mtrs)

On the second ride (15/10/15) the above sequence was followed again. Additionally,as I was now calculating mile marks,at the entry to the Altrincham loop,I made a check mark.On returning to the check mark,I calculated the total counts for the loop.It was then possible to calculate the 13 mile point back from the check mark.On returning to the check mark,I reset the Jones counter to the value it had been after completing the loop . After riding to the finish and finishing 87 counts short,the turn round point was adjusted on the final ride of the start loop ,where the mile marks for this section were then calculated.

The total counts for the Altrincham loop was 105367-88310=17057 counts.

From 12 mile mark to checkpoint = 88310-80520=7790 leaving 11673counts to go to reach 13 miles. Subtracting this from the total count for the loop 17057-11673=5384 which is the number of counts back from the checkpoint to the 13 mile mark.

That's how I did it.I've since realised I could have used a much simpler method. Take the count at the end of the loop and subtract the calculated count for 13 miles .Gives the same answer.

Additional Notes

After the 4 miles runners turn left from Sir Alex Ferguson Way into Wharfside way(A5081) and cross to the right side of the carriageway to run with the central reservation on the left.(see photo on turns page)

On rejoining the main A56,runners are still on the right side of the carriageway until the central reservation ends just before Tesco,when they may cross to the left.
